Scottish Bank Notes

CURRENT ROYAL BANK OF SCOTLAND NOTES

The Royal Bank of Scotland, founded in 1825 issues bank notes to the value of 1, 5, 10, 20 and 100 pounds.  It is the only UK bank still with the one pound note in circulation.

CLYDESDALE BANK COMMEMORATIVE NOTES

The Clydesdale Bank, founded in 1836, is based in Glasgow with branches throughout Scotland.  The Clydesdale Bank is now owned by the National Australia Bank.  The bank no longer issues notes to the value of one pound.

BRITISH LINEN BANK
AND
UNION BANK OF SCOTLAND

Both the British Linen Bank and the Union Bank of Scotland form part of the current Bank of Scotland.  British Linen is traded as a merchant bank as a subsidiary of Bank of Scotland from 1977 to 1999 (but did not issue bank notes).

The Union Bank of Scotland was founded in Scotland in 1830 and traded independently until 1952 when it merged with the Bank of Scotland.
